Kids Crafts Sensory Bottles

Here are some fun kids crafts that can be used in the classroom, made at home, or even given as gifts or party favors for a birthday party. Sensory bottles are easy kids crafts that double as learning activities. The ideas for sensory bottles are just about limitless. Just remember to seal them tightly, use only waterproof "fillers" and monitor the use of the bottles to make sure little hands don't get too curious or resourceful!

Your kids will love them! Whether as a toy to share with friends, or a soothing distraction from being home in bed with a flu (check your symptoms on everydayhealth.com), or something fun to take to show-and-tell, you'll be amazed at how well-loved these toys can be. They don't take long to make and they are fun. Give it a go today!

Recipe for a Bubble-rific Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: Bubble-rific
Fill bottle one-half to two-thirds full with water.

Add a few drops of dish soap.

Seal tightly using hot glue if available.

Wrap lid and bottle neck with waterproof tape.

Decorate as desired (we used fun foam circle stickers).

Why it is bubble-rific:

We think it is fun because the bubbles never stop working. Shake the bottle and make bubbles (without all the sticky, soapy mess). The bubbles will pop and settle, and you can shake it up to start all over again. At the time this bottle was photographed, we had been enjoying the bubbles for over six months! This is definitely one of the kids crafts that gets played with on a regular basis/!

Recipe for a Calming Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: Calming
Fill bottle one-fourth to one-third full with light corn syrup.

Add mylar (shiny) confetti in the shape or shapes of your choice.

Seal tightly using hot glue if available.

Wrap lid and bottle neck with waterproof tape.

Decorate as desired.

Why it is calming:
Try it and you?ll see! The syrup glides down the sides of the bottle very slowly; bringing the confetti right along. No wonder this one is sometimes called a Stress Bottle!

This is one of the kids crafts that is great for a child with ADHD when his or her mind seems to be racing a mile a minute. The quiet, calming nature of the activity can be quite soothing and therapeutic.

Recipe for a Christmas Time Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: Christmas Time
Fill bottle about three-fourths full with water. Add a few drops of cooking oil or corn syrup for "thickness."

Add small pellets of styrofoam for "snow," artificial evergreen needles, small plastic Christmas ornaments, holiday colored beads or other waterproof items as desired. Don't forget red or green food coloring and/or glitter!

Seal tightly using hot glue if available. Wrap lid and bottle neck with waterproof tape. Decorate as desired. Consider tying jingle bells to the neck with a red ribbon.

Why do we like it?
It can be given as a gift craft to a loved one who wishes it could be Christmas Time all year long. It is fun to play with on car trips to visit family, and well - we just really like shiny stuff!

Recipe for a Floating ABC Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: Floating ABC
Fill bottle about three-fourths full with water. Add a few drops of cooking oil or corn syrup for "thickness."

Add alphabet beads: one or more for each letter in the alphabet. These should be available wherever you buy supplies for kids crafts.

Seal tightly using hot glue if available.

Wrap lid and bottle neck with waterproof tape.

Decorate as desired.

Why it is so cool:
Yeah, we like this bottle because it is so fun for us (I mean, kids) to search out all of the letters. If you remember to add the syrup or oil to the bottle, the beads will float down just a little slower - making it easier to find all 26 letters of the alphabet. Try swirling the bottle around a little before turning it over for a little more of a challenge. Oh, and glitter is fun in this bottle, too!

Recipe for a Potpourri Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: PotpourriFill bottle with fruit or floral potpourri.

We punched holes in the side of our bottle but were a little concerned about little fingers poking in the hole getting cuts. Consider adding a band of netting or tulle around the bottle to prevent unnecessary ouchies.

Seal tightly using hot glue if available.

Wrap lid and bottle neck with strong tape.

Decorate as desired.

Why potpourri?
Well, because it smells nice. This activity bottle goes well with a five senses unit. Children just love smelling different scents, so consider making up a few variations with different smells. If you are not planning on keeping the bottle long-term, consider citrus peel, flower petals or other natural materials.

Recipe for a Static Electricity Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: Static Electricity
Make sure bottle is completely clean and dry.

Add small pieces of tissue paper and Styrofoam.

Seal tightly using hot glue if available.

Wrap lid and bottle neck with strong tape.

Decorate as desired. We are kind of fond of lightning bolts!

What am I going to do with it?
Rub the bottle on the carpet or through someone?s hair. Enjoy the static electricity reaction!

Recipe for an Under the Sea Sensory Bottle

Sensory Bottle: Under the Sea
Fill bottle about one-half full with mineral oil or baby oil.

Add 4 to 6 drops of blue food coloring. Add water until bottle is about three-quarters of the way full.

Seal tightly using hot glue if available.

Wrap lid and bottle neck with strong tape.

Decorate as desired.

What now?
Rock the bottle gently back and forth and imagine the waves of the ocean.
